Funshine Music Festival at Florida State Fairgrounds

The three-day music extravaganza featuring more than 30 artists on six stages will be held at the Florida State Fairgrounds May 3-5. Headliners include Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Train, Smashing Pumpkins, the Wallflowers, REO Speedwagon, Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba, Styx, New Found Glory, We the Kings and Kix Brooks. The event also includes 60 rides and attractions as well as a variety of food and beverage offerings.

Florida Panthers are Latest Attraction at Gatorland

Neiko and Lucy, a brother and sister pair of Florida panthers are generating lots of new interest at their new home – Panther Springs – at Gatorland. The $200,000 exhibit allows an up close view of these endangered animals in a relatively natural habitat.

Paul McCartney will play Two Concerts in Orlando

As part of his “Out There Tour,” Sir Paul McCartney will play two concerts at the Amway Center in Orlando on May 18 and 19. Both performances are at 8pm. Tickets range from $57.50 to $250 are are reported to be selling very quickly.

Concert Under the Starts at Bok Gardens

Two outstanding bands are on tap as Concert Under the Stars returns for another season at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales. The Duhks, a Canadian-based band featuring “a folk-rock, bluegrass fusion of Afro-Cuban soul and Jazz,” and the Alison Brown Quartet, starring the internationally recognized banjo virtuoso, perform at 7pm on Saturday, April 27.

Waves of Glory at Wet ‘n Wild

The Grammy-nominated band, Sanctus Real, will perform at this year’s all-day  Waves of Glory concert at Orlando’s Wet ‘n Wild on April 27 following a battle of the bands event featuring up and coming Christian music performers. The music starts at 10am with 12 bands entered and concludes with the 5pm concert by Sanctus Real.

Polk Museum of Art Offers C. Paul Jennewein Works

C. Paul Jennewein was an architectural sculptor during the mid-20th century and is recognized for introducing Art Deco into American architecture. When he died in 1978, his family donated over 2,000 of his works to the Tampa Museum of Art. Now, the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland is planning an exhibit of selected works from the permanent collection in Tampa. Opening April 27, the exhibit will be on display in the Dorothy Jenkins Gallery and Gallery II through July 20.

Great American Pie Festival in Celebration

One of the most anticipated events in our area is the Great American Pie Festival in Celebration. This Lakeside Park pie-lovers-delight returns for the 12th year on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28. Who can resist the Never-Ending Pie Buffet that offers award-winning pie, ice cream, toppings, cheeses and beverages for only $10/adults, $5/Seniors over 65 and children 3-10. Osceola Children’s Theatre Presents Musical

The Children’s Theatre actors of the Osceola Center for the Arts will present “101 Dalmations, Kids,” featuring children 8-11. The show will be offered on Friday, April 26, at 7pm, Saturday, April 27, at 2 & 7pm, and Sunday, April 28, at 2pm. Admission is only $10 for adults and $5 for children. Animal Kingdom Celebrates Birthday and Earth Day

Animal Kingdom was introduced to Walt Disney World on Earth Day, April 22, in 1998 and each year those two special events have been celebrated with lots of activities. 2013 will continue in this tradition with its Party for the Planet throughout the park.
