Polk Museum of Art Offers C. Paul Jennewein Works

C. Paul Jennewein was an architectural sculptor during the mid-20th century and is recognized for introducing Art Deco into American architecture. When he died in 1978, his family donated over 2,000 of his works to the Tampa Museum of Art. Now, the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland is planning an exhibit of selected works from the permanent collection in Tampa. Opening April 27, the exhibit will be on display in the Dorothy Jenkins Gallery and Gallery II through July 20.

The Circus Museums at the Ringling Museum of Art

Historical Circus Poster

One of the most interesting displays at the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota is the Circus Museums. Begun in 1948, the Circus Museums document the history of the American circus through memorabilia and artifacts from the Ringling family circus, John Ringling as the Circus King, and the film, “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Also on display is the Wisconsin, the Ringling’s 1905 private rail car and the world’s largest miniature circus.

America’s Sweet Tooth at County History Center

America’s Sweet Tooth will be the topic of a program presented by the Orange County Regional History Center at 11am on Saturday, April 6. Francine Segan, TV personality, film buff, food historian, and author, will trace America’s sweet tooth back to 1776. The program will include dessert tastings and recipe handouts.

Fantasy of Flight: Where Dreams Take Flight

Florida Artists Exhibit Opens February 16

The Polk Museum of Art will display “Florida Artists” beginning February 16. the Exhibit will be drawn from the Museum’s ever-expanding permanent collection by Florida artists and it will continue through June 9. The museum is located in Lakeland. Admission is only $5, Seniors $4, students and children 5 and under are free.

This Folk Festival is Family Friendly

Mennello Museum of American Art

The 11th Annual Orlando Folk Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, February 9 and 10, at the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando. According to the Museum’s website, the festival will feature “folk and Americana music all day on the main stage, dance, storytelling, traditional craft demonstrations and plenty of food and art vendors.” There is no admission charge. http://www.mennellomuseum.com/festival.html

Behind the Scenes at Universal

A unique look at what takes place behind the scenes at Universal is the theme of a year-long display at the Orange County Regional History Center. The exhibit, “A Year in the Life: Backstage to Onstage at Universal Orlando Resort,” will change with each season at park to include events such as Mardi Gras, Halloween Horror Nights, Macy’s Holiday Parade, Mannheim Steamroller, the Cinematic Spectacular lagoon show, and the Superstar Parade.
