Animal Kingdom Celebrates Birthday and Earth Day

Animal Kingdom was introduced to Walt Disney World on Earth Day, April 22, in 1998 and each year those two special events have been celebrated with lots of activities. 2013 will continue in this tradition with its Party for the Planet throughout the park.

Disney Guests Under 14 Must Be Accompanied

Walt Disney World now requires that children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by someone who is at least 14 years of age. The new policy went into effect on March 23 and applies to Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, DisneyQuest, Blizzard Beach, and Typhoon Lagoon. Previously only those under the age of 7 had to be accompanied by someone at least 14 years old.

Downtown Disney Announces 3-Year Expansion

Downtown Disney has announced plans to double the number of shops, restaurants, and other activities within the next three years, including two garages where parking will remain free. The four village complex connected by a flowing spring and the existing lakefront will be known as Disney Springs.

Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival

Mickey Mouse and stars of The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Toy Story will present a musical show at University of Central Florida Arena in Orlando on Sunday, March 3, at 2:30pm. This musical extravaganza will feature hip hop, pop, swing, reggae, rock, country songs by Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Ariel, Sebastian, Ursula, Jasmine, Aladdin, Genie, Woody, Buzz, and Jessie.

Land of Oz Garden is Open at Epcot

The Land of Oz Garden, one of the highlights of the upcoming Flower and Garden show, is already open at Epcot. At one-third of an acre, the garden is the largest ever created for the festival. The theme of the area is “Oz The Great and Powerful,” a Disney film coming to theaters March 8. a yellow-brick-road will lead youngsters to an interactive play area with carnival-style games. A shaded area with comfortable seating is available for parents. The 2013 International Flower and Garden Festival opens March 6 through May 19.

Disney’s Flower and Garden Festival will add Garden Marketplaces featuring special tastings and beverages around the World Showcase. Among the offerings are Barbecue and Brews at the American Pavilion, Lotus House at China, L’Orangerie at France, Bauernmarket at Germany, Primavera Kitchen at Italy, Hanami at Japan, Jardin de Fiestas at Mexico, Taste of Marrakesh at Morocco, and The Cottage at United Kingdom. Vintage Street Rodders to Gather at Disney Speedway

Vintage Street Rodders of America will gather at the Walt Disney Speedway on March 1 & 2 from 8am to 5pm for the 2nd Annual Magical Rod Run. The event is open only to classic cars from 1948 or older. Admission for spectators is only $5 with children under 12 free. Parking is free. Disney’s Flower & Garden Show Adds Food and Drink

The International Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot will introduce Garden Marketplaces this year. A variety of food and drink kiosks will be added to the festivities in the fashion of the Food and Wine Festival. Among the new features will be a Smokehouse Barbecue and Brew at the American Adventure, Primavera Kitchen in the Italy pavilion, Hanami at the Japan pavilion, and Florida Fresh in the World Showcase Promenade.
